Carandiru ist ein Dramafilm von Héctor Babenco aus dem Jahr 2003. Es basiert auf den Memoiren Estação Carandiru von Dr. Drauzio Varella. Es geht um Drauzio (Luiz Carlos Vasconcelos), einen Arzt und AIDS/HIV-Spezialisten, der kurz vor dem Massaker von 1992, bei dem 111 Gefangene von Polizeikräften getötet wurden, ehrenamtlich im Carandiru-Gefängnis, dem größten Gefängnis Lateinamerikas, in São Paulo arbeitete. Der Film wurde vor Ort im damals stillgelegten Gefängnis gedreht, Monate vor seinem Abriss im Jahr 2002.
